Nelson Mandela. Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of god. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence liberates others.
Dear Mama:
Have you ever felt ashamed of yourself for not having done what you know that you should have done to become what you know that you should have become? There’s a part of us that wants retribution for wrongs done against us. There’s a carnal side in all of us. We want to act out against oppression. Even when we are the cause of the oppression.
What are you going to do about it?
Seems to me that the American thing to do is to forget about it. The addict decides to use a drug to numb the pain. The man decides to suppress it by being emotionless. And the woman… well, she’s a woman so she knows how to overcome it or live with it.
The female intuition is a powerful thing. This is part of her resolve.
She senses when things need to change and quietly begins to set plans in action to affect a needed change in her life. This is why the woman appears so strong when she is finally fed up. She has been listening to her intuition and preparing herself for an event that welcomes clarity, an unclogging of her spirit.
This is one of the lessons that I learned from being around my aunts. You don’t always have to be so strong physically when you have set your mind to what you want in your life and that with or without the current people in your life by the power of your spirit and the faith in your God you will find peace.
My aunties do not give up…
They don’t know how to quit…
They will find a way to get what they want out of a situation…
And, they learn from their mistakes. (Wow! What a concept! To learn from your mistakes.)
My aunties fish, hunt, repair houses, raise children, cook, clean, instruct, sing in the choir and preach in the house. They have no fear! They draw as much as they can from every bit of life that they are blessed to have.
They have taught me to live my life and to keep living it. And, that when life tells me it’s time to change, it’s probably God warning me that I have outgrown the situations so begin preparations.
You will find blessings in your mess. So your stressing serves only to hinder your growth and the blessing of others from sharing your lessons.
Don’t do that, Mandela says. Don’t keep the beauty of your unique talents from the world. Don’t deny the world the joys of your service. Do not belittle your potential because your potential be not little. (Yep I did it again — use that one in your posts — but credit me, of course.)
Just get it done! That’s all I have to say about that.
